I began my teaching career about 7 years ago, during my senior year of high school. I have taught lessons for both piano and guitar consistently since that time, including my time as the Piano Instructor at Cadenza Academy in Portland, OR. I like to let the students navigate the material they learn, as I feel that they should have complete control of what they are focusing their money and time on. Read More

In most of my lessons, I use one of several piano methods, which I supplement with additional materials, chosen according to the student's musical preferences and goals. My preferred courses for beginning students are Alfred, Faber and Bastien. I always include music theory, as it is fundamental to appreciating and understanding the music, and it allows students to learn the basics of improvisation. For students interested also in vocal training, I have experience and an excellent teaching method available. Read More

Firstly, I believe that laughter is important. It helps students relax and enjoy themselves, and it perfectly engages the muscles needed for support. I try to maintain a teaching atmosphere where laughter is possible. I also believe that the student essentially teaches themselves to sing- I diagnose and provide input. I can take a more hands on approach for less experienced singers, but ultimately, nothing is going to stick if the student is not consiously engaged. (For younger students, there is more emphasis on fun and making noise than on specific technique) Read More

I'm a kind and passionate teacher with a love of sharing my knowledge and seeing my students succeed. I attended both Clackamas Community College and Portland State University, both of which have highly respected music programs, but ultimately I left before finishing my degree to go on a national tour with my band Intervision. Honestly though, most of my development has come outside of the educational system, and through my own work and practice. Read More

My voice lessons are tailored solely to the abilities and interests of the student. If they prefer classical repertoire, we work through various art songs in Italian, German, French and English, focusing on technique and diction. If they prefer musical theatre, we have fun with the acting side of it, while learning good technique. I will even do some pop songs, if the student so desires, but these songs are generally much simpler. Read More

For beginning students within the elementary age who are interested in voice lessons, I usually focus on learning notes, rhythms,a few basic piano skills, and breathing. I will also focus on singing favorite songs and telling the story of each song. For older students, singing technique and song interpretation are what I like to focus on. I try to give my students songs that are challenging, fun, and that work with their personalities. Read More

I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Music Education from Wartburg College in 2004.  I then moved to Wisconsin where I was a middle school and high school choir director for seven years.  There I taught chorus, private and group voice lessons, piano class, general music class, and also organized the middle school talent show.  I later moved on to Hawaii where I taught private voice and piano lessons through Musikgarten Hawaii.
