Hello! I'm Kurt. I'm a passionate musician and instructor looking to spread the joy of music to all those who seek to learn it! For more than 10 years now I've been playing both guitar and bass. Though I never really thought of it as more than a hobby, after a few years of college music courses and over 7 years of private lessons, I realized somewhere along the line that I may have acquired enough skill to be more than a hobbyist. Instruments: Piano Flute
For beginning students in piano, I like to use either the Alfred Reed books or the Piano Adventure method books. It really depends on which the student understands the best! Both offer a variety of explanations on musical elements and topics, while also offering a variety of pieces to play. Once certain topics and musical elements are covered, I like to have the student pick a solo piece from several that I will have ready, which will also reflect the new musical elements that were covered. Instruments: Cello
I’ve been playing cello since kindergarten and teaching lessons since I was a freshman in high school. Music has always been my passion, and helping pass it on is one of my favorite things to do. Since then, I went on to East Carolina University to major in music but just recently transferred to Western Oregon University to pursue a program closer to what I want to do. I am a dedicated teacher who has always loved helping people learn, and I am consistently inspired by what my students accomplish. Read More

My Philosophy is "learn how the student best learns". Expose all the students to note reading, ear training, youtube, music theory, improvisation techniques, composition, fingerstyle patterns, tablature, and singing, and then create a program that maximizes their potential and their long term feeling that music is fun and worth doing. Instruments: Voice
I am a relaxed, easy going voice instructor who enjoys promoting singing as a practice of personal expression, mental stimulation, and healing. I recieved my Bachelors Degree from PSU in the spring of 2014. Since then, I have been singing, teaching, and working in the Portland area. Read More

Drums: For students who want to ROCK! Drumming is a perfect way to get active and distracted students engaged and interested in the world of music. Students will learn basic rock/dance/jazz beats, marching cadences, musical symbols and notation, solos, and much more. The book used, Basic Drumming by Joel Rothman, is a wonderful book that will last for 3 years of lessons and beyond. Your teacher will take you from beginner, to intermediate, to advanced, and help you learn the style and genre of music you like best. Read More
Instruments: Banjo Classical Guitar
I use method books by Hal Leonard and Bryan Johanson to begin with, along with exercises from pumping nylon. Once we get to a point where we can read fairly fluently, we begin repertoire work from Canada's Royal Conservatory. I also use chord charts to begin learning how to play as well, as most students like to learn chords to play pop or folk tunes in the meantime as they're learning the fundamentals. Read More
