I have both a Bachelor of Music from the University of Oregon and a Master of Music from the University of Wyoming in Saxophone Performance. I have played both saxophone and clarinet for over twenty years. I have taught privately and in group lessons at the novice, intermediate and collegiate levels. In most of my lessons, I use one of several piano methods, which I supplement with additional materials, chosen according to the student's musical preferences and goals. My preferred courses for beginning students are Alfred, Faber and Bastien. I always include music theory, as it is fundamental to appreciating and understanding the music, and it allows students to learn the basics of improvisation. I also enjoy seeing their love of music develop.  I take each student where they are: beginner or advanced, and put goals in place for them.  Such goals can be things like learning music for solo and ensemble band / orchestra competitions, performing in their Church, or putting together a jazz band or classical ensemble for concerts. I began teaching voice as an undergraduate student at University of Portland, and I have grown to love working with all ages and all styles. I have most recently had the opportunity to teach a college course at CalArts, private lessons to college level students at the institute, and group voice classes to K-3rd graders through the Community Arts Partnership.
