Hello! I'm Kurt. I'm a passionate musician and instructor looking to spread the joy of music to all those who seek to learn it! For more than 10 years now I've been playing both guitar and bass. Though I never really thought of it as more than a hobby, after a few years of college music courses and over 7 years of private lessons, I realized somewhere along the line that I may have acquired enough skill to be more than a hobbyist. Since then I have been doing all I can to make music my career in whatever form that may take. Music has been a very important and inspiring part of my life and I believe that if I have the talent to play then I should be sharing that talent with others.
I've been teaching independently since the start of the new year and have since acquired a few students. I took a years of music courses at my local university and I am currently seeking my Bachelors in Music Production. Additionally I have been playing both guitar and bass for over 10 years. Though I am primarily a guitar and bass player, I am also an experienced electronic music producer and recording artist. I am currently finishing my first LP with a planned release for winter 2022! Quite obviously I have a deep passion for music in all forms and I would love nothing more than to bring that joy and passion to all those looking to learn.
For younger students and those just starting out, I will usually start with a basic introduction to their instrument, get them acquainted with it and how to properly play the instrument before moving on to basic scales and beginner songs. As for more experienced and older students, I try to figure out what their goals are as a musician and guide the instruction based on those goals and ensuring that things remain engaging as well as educational. Whether that means learning a new song, giving advice on compositions or just using the time as a structured jam session, fun and education is the name of the game!
Music is all about having fun and exploring one's own creative intuition. I like to teach in a relaxed environment, ensuring that lessons are not only educational but also enjoyable. I want to ensure that my students are learning at a pace that is acceptable to them while also encouraging goal setting and independent learning. I generally also prefer a more conversational style of teaching. I want to engage with students rather than simply tell them to follow a chart or reading materials. I'm a firm believer that just trying something is the key to successful learning.
