Instruments: Banjo Classical Guitar

I use method books by Hal Leonard and Bryan Johanson to begin with, along with exercises from pumping nylon. Once we get to a point where we can read fairly fluently, we begin repertoire work from Canada's Royal Conservatory. I also use chord charts to begin learning how to play as well, as most students like to learn chords to play pop or folk tunes in the meantime as they're learning the fundamentals. Read More

I am a passionate, experienced, kind, and motivated teaching artist who enjoys helping my students discover and develop their abilities. As a full-time working artist, I have a vibrant national career as a composer, singer, conductor, and producer in early and new classical music. I have given masterclasses at Harvard University, ASU, Wellesley, Kenyon, and many other K-12 schools across the country. I was fortunate to have had many inspiring and dedicated teachers and mentors in my life, and I'd love to be that person for my students. Read More

Instruments: Piano

Most lessons involve sight-reading, theory, and repertoire. I try to find a balance between introducing new music and reviewing older pieces. I am not a task master, but I do love to give positive reinforcement and praise for quality work and effort. I encourage my students to give me honest feedback on the material that they are working on. I will often ask them if they like the music they are playing or if they have any specific requests. Instruments: Guitar Drums Electric Guitar Acoustic Guitar

I began teaching after graduating high school and have continued to do so ever since. During these years I attended college at California State University Chico, where I earned my Bachelor's degree as an audio engineer. This journey greatly helped me grow as a musician, teacher, leader, and engineer. Through out my college years I continued to play in bands both through my school and locally in our community, started my own business to help local musicians gain recognition and improve their skills, gained a new appreciation for musicianship and creativity through the eyes of an audio engineer, and of course taught my students to improve their musical abilities. Instruments: Trumpet French Horn Tuba

I have been teaching since high school when I was the only trumpet in our high school band and the younger middle school families wanted to get their child lessons but didn't have the money or be able to get them to a music school to help them, so I would teach them after school. Through my college life I have continued to teach those kids and more and even had one of my kids go off to state jazz. Read More

Instruments: Piano

I feel that, like my piano teachers always said, practice does in fact make perfet. It's amazing what can happen with even a 1/2 hour every other day when it comes to weekly lessons. I tend to assign more, but my point is that it's extremely important to practice! Also, what helped students the most - across the board - was theory workbooks, especially when it came to composition. Getting students interested in composing lends way to their completion rate when it came to homework too! Read More
