I believe EVERYONE has the ability to sing.  Some voices will go on to do big things, and some will help to build confidence in their everyday lives. I grew up with loving and compassionate teachers and family members.  It's my job as a human being to offer that same level of respect and compassion. For Piano: I usually start with the Alfred's Basic books and work my students through those lessons until they reach a point where I can begin to use other repertoire books with them to give them supplemental work. I always use scales as warm ups for the hands, even if they are very basic for new students. My teaching experience started about 10 years ago when I was in Guitar Center looking at keyboards and someone asked me for lessons... I still have that student and many more now and have a very high retention rate and am an upbeat, positive teacher that students enjoy coming back to. The fact that I also play live gigs about 4 nights a week gives my students a chance to see me play live and get inspired, something that is really necessary to keep a student motivated for years. I encourage my students to eat well and take care of themselves physically and emotionally.
