I began taking guitar lessons at the age of thirteen and continued for about two years before teaching myself the rest. For beginning children students I typically start with Hal Leonard or a similar reputable music book.  Once the students has a grasp of the fundamentals we will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate to their age and skill level.  For adult students, I find out what the student is interested in and create a lesson plan that is fun and challenging no matter their skill level. For beginning students, I vary my teaching methods quite a bit. I often take on students in households that already have method books purchased, and I have never had an issue with using them. At times, more books are needed, but I will allow the student to utilize these already-owned options, as I myself will supplement extra music.
