I am motivated to foster a fun lesson environemnt. I loved lessons growing up, and now enjoy the joys of teaching all ages. At my home studio, I teach voice piano and acting lessons to students of all ages. The Twin Cities fasters a rich and diverse musical community. I am happily performing locally with five different groups including two corporate bands, a jazz band, a funk group, an acoustic duo, and an original project. Read More

Each student needs a long-term goal in mind for where they want their voice to be. I like to start out by setting a couple realistic goals for the long-term with my students, then breaking those goals down into manageable steps each associated with one or two pieces. I also want students to know that they are accomplishing their goals, so I have my students tape lessons and listen back later to hear their progress. Read More

Guitar: For children, I prefer the FJH Young Beginner Guitar method, but for adults I would prefer Hal Leonard if the student is looking to learn both chords and melody using folk music. I could also teach guitar based on gospel and Christian praise music if the student prefers. I have taught students with an interest in rock music, but only to give them the basic foundation skills of chords and notes to build on with another teacher who has more of a rock music speciality. Instruments: Voice
For me, voice teaching is all about the individual. Unlike a violin, trumpet, piano, or other instrument of a fixed size and shape, voices come in all shapes and sizes. Each students physiology and psychology is different and responds better to different stimuli/approaches. In singing, our bodies are our instruments! Therefore, there is no one size fits all approach to teaching voice. It thrills me to get to know a student and work with them in a cooperative and encouraging way to achieve his or her goals. In the voice studio I am a kind and nurturing teacher - no matter the age or level of the singer. Above all, I strive to instruct healthy, beautiful singing. I absolutely believe in choosing music for a student that will help improve specific areas of vocal technique, but also music about which the student feels passionate. Singing should feel like a release and it should be rewarding. I remember looking forward to voice lessons and getting so excited to watch my voice grow and get better. Read More

Nothing is more of a joy to me than seeing my students succeed! I set an individual pace for each student that allows them to set realistic goals and accomplish them. I am an instructor that believes in making music education fun, and achievable, and pride myself on creating a fun and open environment for each student. Making sure that we acknowledge the successes of the student allows the student to continue striving for the more difficult, longer term goals. Read More

My final goal is how to enjoy singing. In my opinion, the most important thing is that singing should be comfortable to both a singer and an audience. For this reason, I generally help them to sing comfortably. Most of the students have a common problem to sing. I would say it is artificial voice which makes their voice tired and injured. When I taught students some of them struggled with development about their voice quality. Read More
