I begin with an assessment of the student that starts with the student explaining to me his or her background and personal goals/reasons for taking voice lessons. From there, I take the student through simple exercises where assess the students ability in the fundamentals of, postural alignment, breath support, resonance, articulation, and vowel constancy. Based on the students' ability I devise a regimen of vocal exercises designed to strengthen areas of weakness. Read More

I am a passionate musician who has been privately trained in instrumental and vocal music since I was 8 years old. I have had many opportunities as a trumpeter and vocalist, which include performing with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Choir, the Sioux City Symphony, and soloing alongside legendary jazz trumpet player, Jon Faddis. I have won numerous awards in music, such as Outstanding Soloist at the AU Jazz Competition in 2012 and 2014, as well as Outstanding Brass Soloist at the KCKCC Jazz Competition in 2015. Read More

For students of all levels, I emphasize the fundamentals. No matter what style our focus is in, the development of scales, chord progressions, modes and technique patterns are universal. I incorporate solo literature early and often and work with the students to play the music that they listen to every day. We develop the students ear through weekly memorization of music the student enjoys on a daily basis. Piano students can expect training focused on building finger strength and flexibility along with sight reading and improvisation training. Piano students can also expect more theory training to complement improvisation and to more fully understand the music at hand. Piano: I prefer Faber Piano Adventures, but I can be flexible if the student is in the middle of another series already. I have also taught the young beginner series by Faber. Strings: I use a traditional approach, but I am not tied to any particular method book. I can supplement whatever is being taught in school or the lessons can stand on their own. I have taught anywhere from Kindergarten to adult ages. Read More
