I believe that the journey is just as important and enjoyable as the destination itself and every student has their own journey and their own destination. In lessons I have taught, I find that letting a student feel free to explore every facet of their voice is key, as exploration leads to breakthroughs! I have had a desire to be an educator since I was in second grade. The first music ensemble I directed was a men's choir at Huntley High School in Huntley, Illinois. I proceeded to direct worship choirs and bands at Carthage College for my four years at Carthage. The first time I began teaching music was shortly after graduating high school, and asking local band directors to get some experience with their summer band, and marching band programs. While studying music in college, I received further training in classrooms outside of music to further develop my skills. It was during this period I that began to find joy from one-to-one learning. Since then, I've taught primarily clarinet students independently at Butler University in Indianapolis. I was hooked and for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school, I ran a theater company for children of social service recipients.
