I always like to make sure I am teaching my students what they want to learn, but I do occasionally challenge them by assigning more advanced material that I envision them performing or think would be beneficial to them. I am a passionate artist and teacher who loves working with students and helping them become the best musicians they can be! I graduated from Oklahoma City Universitys Wanda L. Bass School of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre and a Bachelor of Music in Opera Vocal Performance. I have studied voice, music theory, piano and vocal pedagogy extensively. Most important to my teaching is that each student to listens to a lot of music, and learns to play the music that they love as soon as possible. I work with a variety of method books/videos depending on skill level and stylistic interest, and teach time-tested regimens for building raw ability on the instrument. For all my students, including vocalists, I always try to keep things enjoyable with mixed repertoire assignments. Even at beginner levels, I've seen some of my students cover the songs thattheywant to learn. I didn't learn to sing and play the piano by being forced to play songs I didn't enjoy as a listener. The key is finding music that is both challengingto create andfun as heck to perform.
