I understand that every student is different so I treat them accordingly. I recognize that children will progress at their own pace. I acknowlege accomplishments by helping and giving students the tools that they need to be a successful vocalist and performer. By finding out what kind of music that they like, what are their goals I tailor the lesson according to their wants and needs. Read More

All of my students work on tried and true Bel Canto and Swedish techniques. I will give each student special vocal exercises to work on at home. I generally assign songs from The 24 Italian Songs and Arias songbook and I use Musical Theater Anthologies. Some of my more advanced High School students work on Opera arias. Read More

I am an inspiring and highly motivated teaching artist, who takes great joy in sharing my love of music with everyone. I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education- Jazz Voice from Temple University in Philadelphia. I began my musical journey in East Orange, New Jersey, where Lauryn Hill and Whitney Houston also got their starts. In 2016, I earned my B.A in Music at Duke University, then went on to complete my M.M. in Jazz Studies in 2020 with focus in Vocal Jazz Performance at North Carolina Central University. At NCCU, I was a member of the award-winning Vocal Jazz ensemble that made it to the grammy ballot for best vocal jazz album in 2017. Read More

It is important to know about your instrument to be able to properly use it. My students will not only begin with the basic fundamentals of singing, breathing techniques, and music theory; but they will also learn the anatomy of the voice and how the body allows the sound to be produced. Students will be given different assignments each week so that a progress report can be given to parents on their child's voice development. Read More

I teach speech skills acquisition from a kinesthetic and descriptive basis rather than an arbitrary linguistic standard, in order to respect the individual and focus on what is fundamentally useful to the artistic process— “the ability to adapt”. My role is to add to a student's repertoire of skills, not to diminish the student's sense of what is appropriate or possible on stage. By explicitly addressing both the objective facts of vocal production and the subjective nature of vocal experience in my teaching, I help the students to free themselves to learn in a way that suits the individual situation. I focus on the voice first - not just repertoire, not just impending auditions or competitions. Building the voice - not just the performance to come - is an approach I have found to yield strong technique that can carry students far past any immediate need. Building range, teaching the function and physiology of the vocal anatomy (moreso as students age), and bringing students to understand their voice as an extension of their heart, mind, and body are all simple goals I have for each student.
