My teaching experience has been with All About Theatre Company since 2017. Teaching Kids-Teens how to sing, dance and act. I have been teaching private voice for the least year over zoom since the pandemic. Encouraging regular practice and developing a personal vocal exercise routine for every student is something I do for every student, every voice is unique so there is no one size fits all here. My teaching experience is rather diverse. I started teaching private lessons thirty years ago and I always loved sharing what I knew with others. I've never stopped teaching private lessons, but I've also taught group lessons and music classes in private schools, I've taught adult classes and I've taught college classes at two schools in New Jersey. I think voice especially has always been viewed as a bit of a mystery... you can't see or touch your voice as you sing, unlike playing instruments, so there's a certain amount of imagination that has to be involved. I do my best to straddle making singing as tangible as I can, and approach things somewhat scientifically ("This muscle is used in this way," etc.) while also inspiring visualization ("Send your sound out into the distance," etc.) I also really think it's important for musicians to be diverse, so not only will we learn chord and strumming patterns on a guitar, we'll also learn how to read simple lead lines of solos, etc. Read More

For beginning students, I will start with standing position and breath training along with simple vocalize and songs that students like to sing. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals I will begin to introduce technical repertoire. For advanced students, I will focus on solve the students problems first, (such as jaw tension, tongue tension, body tension and breath disconnection exc.) then introduce new repertoire will help the students and develop the students to the higher and higher level. I want my students to enjoy their music lessons, I don't want it to feel like a chore. It can be really fulfilling when I see a student playing or singing something with joy! I pay close attention to what exercises students seem to want to spend the most time on and the ones they get frustrated with.
