For Pianist, the Suzuki series is quite good, as well as A Dozen A Day and the tried and true Mikrokosmos of Bela Bartok. For more advanced players, I like to work within their preferred style, ie RB, Rock, Classical, but also find it important draw relevant material from other styles like Jazz and non-Western music. I've been passionate about teaching drums since I was in college, and I was thankful to have great instructors during my formative years that gave me a great foundation for getting new drummers started in a way that is fun, effective, and non-intimidating. A solid foundation in snare drum technique and basic sight-reading is important for all beginners, but I also find it very effective to teach the drums through learning songs with my students. If people are more interested in an at-your-own-pace style of lessons, I love navigating the balance between pushing students to try new things and expand themselves, and solidifying the skills and interests they already have. In addition to teaching saxophone, I've been teaching both music theory (classical and jazz) and ear training (including solfege and sight singing) independent of saxophone lessons for 4 years. I use different methods for students over 12 years of age and younger students. For the first group I base my teaching on Alan Dawson and Gary Chester style systems using variations for the students level and needs. For the second group I like using a Bobby Deitch method adding a play along list.. For both group , according to the musical needs of the student I might add some of my original material, some transcriptions, Wilcoxin Snare Drum Solo's, materials from Stick Control and Syncopation books.
