I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor's degree on Vocal Performance, and am currently a second-year master's student pursuing a degree in Vocal Pedagagy. I am aspiring to be an educator in the realm of community outreach, to be on the opera stage, and to produce and record classical, childrens, Christian, jazz and ethno-cultural sacred music. Most of my instruction experience has been on-the-job teaching of my professional associates and bandmates as a Musical Director and bandmate. I have occasionally taught lessons during brief stints off of the road, but playing on the road has been my primary job for most of my adult life. I never assume a student cannot succeed. Progress comes quickly with a variety of songs supported by successive exercises and methodology. Parental involvement is highly recommended and I try to work with parents to determine motivational techniques. I have found that students need a regular practice time 4 to 5 times a week, even if it is only a few minutes at a time; but, hopefully, we can find music that they like to sit down and play. I then guide the student through various exercises that are designed to improve and strengthen specific areas of the voice, specific registers, problem areas, and so on.
