Upon graduation from college, I worked with autistic support students within Pittsburgh Public schools. I secured my music teaching position working in the same district shortly there after. I taught grades kindergarten through eighth. I taught general music along with instrumental music and choir. I also coached middle school cross country runners for several seasons. Ive recently left the physical classroom but cannot wait for private students to begin teaching within a home studio or virtually of course! Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my days as a vocal performance major at West Virginia University, where I began teaching private lessons and group lessons to members of my church music ministry. One particular joy that I take from teaching private lessons is seeing students who want to sing but struggle with issues of confidence have a breakthrough where they take a risk in a performance and achieve something they never thought they could do before! I’m enthusiastic about teaching children all aspects of music, including music history and appreciation, movement, and theory. I hope to help students develop listening and sight singing skills, as well as improving their technique. My teaching style is focused and active. I appeal to students’ learning modalities by varying my approach; visual demonstrations, listening activities, dancing, and drawing combine to enhance student understanding. Students are encouraged to join ensembles and seek performance venues. Read More

For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. Whatever the instrument, I follow and listen to the student to understand what they need, and change my curriculum to suit them. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with either the John Schaum method book series or the James Bastien method book series. Both book series are fun, colorful, and engaging for the student. Once the student has progressed to have a better grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the student develop a passion for music! It’s really important to see each student get improved at their own pace! I will try to help them on their own problems and try to discover their own benefits. It’s really important to students to realize how secpial they are, nobody can be copied! So my job is to help you to find your own and work on it until to reach your goal with Music! Read More
