For guitar (beginners), I use Mel Bay's Modern Guitar book. For vocalists interested in jazz, I'll use The Real Vocal Book for material, and to teach out of, I'll use my beginner piano and guitar books for sight reading, and teach my own techniques from memory. I can work on any song the student might want to learn. I aim to work with the students at whatever level they’re at. Read More
Instruments: Piano Voice
For my piano students, I use different method and technique books in order to help my students learn the basics. This includes how to properly read their sheet music so that they can pratice their skills by themselves. I also use repetition and demonstrate different pratice skills so that my students can further advance their piano skills. For both vocal and piano lessons I do demonstrate difficult parts of the music in order to help my students understand the music selection that they are working on. Read More

I have a deep passion for the convergence of theory and performance, because I believe that understanding the theoretical reasons behind musical decisions opens up vast realms of experimentation and creativity. Consequently, my teaching style revolves around the marriage of music theory and performance, so that my students can learn how to build on the foundation that has been laid by the musicians who have come before us. I believe that it is the educator's duty to tailor his or her teaching to the unique learning style and needs of each student. Read More

I supplement this work with flash-cards to help with note recognition, sight-singing to aid understanding of how bass and treble complement each other. I also use composition to help students develop ownership of the skills they're acquiring. Nothing says "I know how to do this" like writing your own song. Thompson's First Grade is also the starting point for my 7, 8 and 9 year old students. They enjoy the melodies, and the challenge of combining hands. Read More

I have always felt an innate passion for music. From a young age, you could be sure to find me by my family's upright piano - either plunking pretend melodies on its keys or hiding in the magical world I thought existed behind it. Soon, I joined every performing and competitive ensemble I could. Each new form of music and expression was wonderful to me. Singing, theater, mallet percussion, vibraphone, saxophone, jazz, learning different musical forms, I couldn't get enough! Read More
