I have been teaching music for about fifteen years. Currently I teach music at a charter school where I am the lead music teacher. I currently teach high school students piano performance as well as AP music. I studied at the renowned Hartt School of Music, Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz in Hartford CT where I graduated with my bachelors in music with honors. My mission is to help each student create a healthy sound rooted in the body, which, coupled with a solid breathing technique, creates an easy, effortless and dynamic tone. From the very first lesson, I teach a fudamental warm-up that addresses the physical, breathing and vocal, and which the student can use for the rest of their singing career. Once that's in place, I spend the remaining time tailoring the lesson itself to the individual student's needs; this may be focusing on breathing one day, while focusing on resonating the next. I approach teaching on an individual basis, meaning it's important to me to know the goals, hopes, passions, and if applicable, the worries or insecurities the student is feeling. In a first lesson I identify something that is special and unique about each student, and build their technique from this place. I find this helps the difficult areas feel a little less challenging because they already have something they feel proud of when working through the discomfort of something new or intimidating. During my teenage years, I accompanied my church and high school concert choir. After graduating from college, I became certified in music and decided to teach piano full-time.
