If, however, a student does not practice, I try to work with them in a positive manner to see if we can get to the root of the issue. I do not take a 'lecture style' approach as I find a lack of practice often has more to do with their fear than anything else. If I can help a student address their fears and help work them through it, more often than that this is what helps them move forward with their practice habits. Read More

I teach students about breath support and resonation and how they work together. Then help the student customize their own warm up method. while working on scales and solfeggi (do re mi). And then work on vocal projection and range, before moving onto vocal articulation and annunciation. There are many aspects of singing that work together it is important to understand how these factors function. its can be helpful to understand what to listen and look for in your performance or what others may see that may not be obvious to you. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I believe everyone, even teachers are students forever and we are all equal in this journey. I learn just as much, if not more from my students. I find the most progress in students are when they speak out and meet me halfway in the lesson. I am more than happy to adjust my methods as a teacher because no student is the same. I currently work with people with disabilities in music around the greater Boston area, but want to expand all around in the beautiful state of Rhode Island! Read More

For piano- I teach out of several method books- Faber, Bastein, John Thompson and Alfred's. I also implement Dozen a Day for piano technique and Hanon and scales. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style.
