For all my students, including vocalists, I always try to keep things enjoyable with mixed repertoire assignments. Even at beginner levels, I've seen some of my students cover the songs thattheywant to learn. I didn't learn to sing and play the piano by being forced to play songs I didn't enjoy as a listener. Each student will be unique, and will be taught differently. It depends on the student as far as their skill level. I can start with scales, and basic warm ups, and move on to songs that they like that is within their level. I want the student to enjoy coming to a lesson, so I will pick songs or they will pick songs that they like, and if I feel they are up to the challenge, we will work on those songs. Read More
