I approach each student differently because each person has different strengths, needs, and goals. No two lessons are ever taught the same way because each one is tailored to the individual. I am happy to work with students on specific repertoire for auditions or other events, and/or on general literature simply for the love of singing and the joy of growth. I use my own technique exercises that I write and cater for each of my students. I am a huge fan of the Arban's technique book for brass, but I like to keep lessons fun with songs that challenge my students at their level. Once the student has progressed to the intermediate level - solid fundamentals, musicianship, and a desire for learning - I introduce solo repertoire. For beginning students who are ages 8-13 will first use the Standard of Excellence red book and then they will transfer to the blue book. Intermediate and Advance will use the Foundations for superior performance book. We will start to pick solos that they are able to play and work on them. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
