My teaching style is rooted in the philosophy that if you keep explanations simple then understanding is easy. Playing drums is not easy but it is not complicated either. I find that it is important to work on making a sound from the instrument as soon as possible, thats why often times the first drumset lesson will include learning a beat on the drumset. I usually start out using the Rubank Method, but I frequently incorporate some Suzuki and other ear training methods as well. I also like to use Trevor Wye's books for more advanced students. I like to expose all students to a classical repertoire of performance pieces, using basics for beginners and progressing in difficulty as the student gains more control of the instrument. I use a variety of books with etudes, or studies, to give students a strong background in technique while also teaching various musical concepts such as theory and improvisation. Read More
