I really want to focus on what students want to become. It is really important to me to see a student develop a passion of music. With that everyone learns at their own pace so I want to be able to help them learn at their pace. Something I also think is important is I cannot teach everything in one session. If the student is wanting to learn and grow then they have to take on practicing on their own. Read More
Instruments: Drums
For more complex rhythm Louie Bellssons Modern Reading is an excellent supplement. For drumset the above texts also work but the best solution is the Rhythm Concept by Kelly Wallis, a fantastic method of deconstructing rhythm. There are many traditional style texts along with a host of audioplay along style texts that I am comfortable teaching from. Together with the students input we can find a workbook that best suits their needs. Read More
Instruments: Piano Guitar Flute
I encourage my students to practice smart instead of long. This is especially important for young students. I teach my students to self-evaluate their own playing. When difficult areas are recognized, this is where the practicing focus should be. Above all, music should be enjoyable! Hard work disguised as FUN is my goal. I am great at giving positive feedback. I enjoy celebrating success. I feel that it is important to let the student set the pace and then encourage from there. Read More
Instruments: Saxophone Clarinet Music
My musical teaching goes back to high school, when I was the section leader in marching band on clarinet and the saxophone section leader in jazz band. I lead sectionals and helped those in my section learn the music and improve as players. I tried to make the sectional time as effective as possible, as we usually only had about 30 minutes. But I also believe in having fun while you work-if it's not fun, then something needs to change because music should be fun! Read More

All I want for my students is to reach their goals. Goals are important. Goals get you to your next goal. I want to share my passion and experiences of drumming with my students. I want to see my students grow. I want my students to share with me what music makes them want to grow. I have had the honor of performing with many amazing musicians, probably some of the best. Instruments: Violin Viola
I use the Suzuki Method throughout my teaching process. I think it is a great bases for teaching the techniques necessary to master the violin/viola. I also use various scale books (according to level) to teach note reading, sight reading, and basic music theory. Each student in my studio is required to work on a technique (scales, etc.) and one to two solo pieces. Along with this, majority of my students perform with orchestras in schools or the community.
