Shortly after my graduation and subsequent marriage, I began a teaching career that has included private piano lessons, small classroom groups, combined piano/voice lessons at a private music school, and being a homeschool educator to my own three children! I am a skilled accompanist, which requires remembering that your job is to uplift and support the group or individual performer as they sing or play. I have accompanied many church choirs, school choirs, vocal and instrumental recitals, and ensemble groups. Read More

For me, the most amazing aspect of teaching music is to assist students in developing a musical identity of their own. Nothing could be a greater blessing than to experience students cultivating a personal and profound relationship with the magic of music firsthand, and to be there to help them to further their passion is a gift beyond what I am capable of expressing in words. By sharing the musical knowledge I have gathered throughout my life in lessons that are dynamic and adaptable yet consistent in terms of supporting students' growth, it is my intention to help to nourish students' own love for music, just as others have inspired me to do the same. I take a physiological approach to singing...after all it is a physical endeavor. The voice or larynx, despite all it complexities, is just another set of muscles that can be trained to reach its fullest potential. The method I teach, “The Franco/Italian Bel Canto Method” has been taught in Europe for more than 200 years and has produced the world’s greatest classical singers. Now, having said that let me assure you that studying this method doesn’t mean you have to become a classical singer. The techniques used are designed to strengthen and improve the quality of the human voice and can be applied to any genre whether your goal is “Broadway,” “American Idol” or you simply want to improve your voice for your own personal satisfaction. The method also addresses all things associated with singing, such as breathing, posture and stage presence. Read More

I approach each student knowing that every student is unique and so is their learning style. While the information that is delivered to each student remains the same, the manner in which I teach each student varies widely. I try to foster the best student-teacher relationship possible in order to gain the confidence and trust of both the student and their families. I also have much experience teaching students with unique characteristics such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, Asperger's, etc. Read More

I believe that teaching voice does not involve a one-size-fits-all method. Every one is different, and therefore every voice is unique. It's important to treat each voice individually. A positive teaching environment is vital to encourage a student's progress. Lessons should also be fun. If the student is not having fun then something is not right. I also listen to the students and find out what repertoire and styles they would like to work on. Read More

I usually start all of my piano students from the Alfred series. Those that are more advanced will complete the curriculum quicker.. Alfred seems to offer a more detailed instruction technique. It offers step by step instructions. The student can almost teach himself. For guitar I use the Everyday guitar method. This method introduces each string at a time. By the end of the book, you will be playing songs on each string. Read More
