I like to make sure my students have a strong foundation, but I also make sure they're enjoying their lessons! Music therapy is different than teaching private lessons, but I've worked with many different people throughout my time as a music therapist including; children with disabilities, geriatric patients, psychiatric patients, adults in memory care, and many others. My influences range from Ella Fitzgerald, to Dean Martin, to Tony Bennett, and Barbra Streisand, to name several. I take what I like from those artists, and add my own sound to it. I had the opportunity to perform with JT and California Dreamin in Southern California for a PBS fundraiser. That band leader is John Tu, the founded of the Sim Card. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to learning an instrument. I utilize a variety of different methods for the variety of instruments I teach (guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, voice). I like to meet with my students and get an idea of the pace in which the learn and how much effort they want to put in. Once I understand a student's taste, I love to show them other artists they may like and help expose them to new music. Michael is a musical director, lyricist/composer, and music producer with an extremely varied background. He formed a medieval ensemble to perform at the premier of ROBIN AND MARIAN, and a Country-Western band for the South African equivalent of the Kentucky Derby. Hes a former musical director for National Lampoon's live shows and television specials, including CLASS OF '86, for which he also wrote several songs.
