There are typically three books that I like to start children off with which include Piano Party, Music for Little Mozart’s, and My First Piano Adventure which are designed for children ages 4-11 years old. These books help children to understand the basics of rhythm, music theory, and activities associated with the two. I generally like to begin my teenage to adult students with the All in One Adult Course series which consists of three levels from easy to beginner intermediate and also combines a mixture of classical and modern music. I have always loved music. I began singing in church when I was only five years old. I began studying the piano when I was eight years old, and was privileged to become the church pianist at fourteen. As a lifelong student of music I have a lengthy music education, including studying the piano at the Birmingham Southern University Conservatory of Music. I have years of experience teaching piano and voice as well as teaching music in both private and public schools. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I began teaching toward the end of my graduate studies at Georgia State University where I received my Master of Music degree. Teaching provides me with an opportunity to share my love of music with those who want to learn to become better vocalists. I'm classically trained, but I grew up singing Gospel and listening to R&B and Pop music. I love being on stage, and have experience performing in Opera, Musicals, as wells as solo performances. For beginning piano students, I usually begin with the Alfred Prep Course, supplemented with a notespeller to help expedite learning to read music. I also begin ear training, chords, and solo repertoire as the student becomes ready. For voice students, I begin with breathing, vocal technique, and skill-level appropriate songs. For all students, regardless of instrument and experience, I aim to set goals together with them and use each lesson to advance toward the completion of those goals! Read More

I create a hands on curriculum based on the students musical proficiency. Alongside this structured lesson plan, every student will receive training on proper practicing techniques which help build their sense of guidance, responsibility, and structure. Students will also receive training for embouchure and tone development as well as warm up etudes that cater to the students skill level. Music theory and terms will be infused within the lesson plans to ensure my student's proper use of signs and symbols. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. It is so important that each individual student progresses at his or her own ace. I encourage this progress by setting realistic and clear goals for my students at each lesson. When I acknowledge their accomplishments, it helps to fuel the desire to learn of the student and makes them eager to learn more. Once I find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction towards the wants and needs of my students. Read More

For beginners who are children, I usually start with a method book series such as Bastien or Faber. As soon as it is appropriate, I also begin teaching fundamentals like scales, arpeggios, sight-reading, and supplemental technical training (Hanon exercises, for example). I also like to introduce works by famous composers as soon as I can - they come in all levels of difficulty and provide an opportunity to teach some music history. Read More
