Alongside being an artist, teaching has been a great part of my life.  In addition to my artistic career,  I have had the privilege of having a  dynamic educational career!  My first teaching job dates back to 13 years ago.  Since then, my career has branched out into many facets of the field, both as a classroom teacher and as a private instructor.  I have had the opportunities to work with students of all ages, both in the academic and musical settings.  My current educational stint is that of a special educator who works with children with Autism.  In either setting, it is my goal as a teacher to get the student excited about learning the basics and then building the skills, so that he/she may perform to his/her fullest potential.  Read More

I love working with younger students because it's important to remind them of the importance of exercising your vocal chords properly. I also discuss the importance of eating the right healthy foods to maintain a healthy voice and lifestyle. I often invite the students to my events to encourage them to continue to be disciplined and learn all they can while they're young. I firmly believe in individual learning processes. Once I determine each student's learning style, I design my lessons to adhere to that style. Most students prefer a combination of vocal instruction and hands-on demonstration of theory and technique. It is exciting and rewarding to me to meet the student where they are and work with them in a manner that is comfortable for them. I have no expectations of my students until they show me what they're capable of. After our first two lessons, I start to really stress the importance of practicing on their own time as well. Singing is part muscle memory and your muscles can't memorize what they aren't consistently doing! I use a very kinesthetic approach to my teaching in that I focus on how the entire body feels when my student is singing the correct way versus how it feels when they are singing incorrectly (unhealthily). For beginning students both children and adults, I typically start with Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence books. Once my younger students have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire that is appropriate for their first recital performance. Once the adults have progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction towards that interest, all while keeping the lessons engaging and fun.
