In my second book I devote most of the curriculum to teaching the concepts of chord theory with movable chord patterns and learning to play scales over chords for improvisation. Therefore my students get a thorough knowledge of reading and playing notes, chord theory concepts and positional guitar playing through movable CAGED system in positional playing in various styles. This way my stiden are equipped for all genres of music. /p Read More

I am a dedicated and enthusiastic music instructor deeply committed to fostering a love for music in my students. In 2015, I earned my Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan, followed by a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2019. Whether performing as a vocalist, sight-reading complex musical compositions, or interpreting nuanced musical pieces, I bring a multifaceted skill set to my role as an educator. Read More

For piano students just starting out, I like Alfred’s basic piano library, and the Bastien piano basics. There are several other piano courses I’m excited to try as well. For both piano and voice students, I like to include a book of tunes with which the student is familiar: movie tunes, Disney songs, etc. For older students, I will focus a little more on the different time periods of music and help them to gain an appreciation for each. The method book I begin younger students on is Piano Adventures by Faber and Faber. There are 5 Level books to complete. We use the lesson book, as well as the technique book. I also supplement with solo repertoire and various materials. For the older beginner, I use Alfred's Basic Adult All-In-One Course, as well as supplemental solo repertoire. Music theory is essential in my studio, and I use various learning tools to teach theory. iPad apps, worksheets, games and manipulatives are a few examples. Read More

My teaching experience is unique as my journey started when I was 13 years old. I was the Praise and Worship Leader at my church and was tasked with teaching the younger members of the praise team new songs to sing for the ministry every week. Throughout my years of high school, I was given more opportunities to nurture my gift of educating by leading musical theatre workshops to kids in the community. Read More

For the young students who are just starting out in vocal lessons I like to recommend starting with the proper breathing techniques and moving in to singing from the diaphragm and more experienced techniques will follow after that. After we have touched on those techniques we will move in to the performance portion of the lessons and how to connect with the song and then being able to portray the message of the song clearly and efficiently to the audience so that they can connect to the emotions that are coming from the song. For beginners, I always start with a classical approach, which stresses the importance of posture and breathing. We'll usually start with the First Book of [Voice Part]'s Solos and mix in one or two musical theater pieces. This is in tandem with learning how to warm up, learn pieces, what memorizing looks like, and how to emote. These are constantly evolving things that can be used with any skill level. Read More
