1981 - Present Performed with various church choirs, professional groups as Pianist and conductor. Has taught music in Houston since 1981. I introduce students to various styles of music even though I may push classical and sacred music. My students are delighted that they can tackle such music even though they must develop their technique. I stress to students the power of being consistance and steady in daily practice. They learn a short history of the music they must perform and how to do it according to the Composer. Read More

I meet the student where they are, intuiting their desires, fears, and needs. I believe the process of learning involves a step-by-step building of knowledge and skill, reinforcing previous accomplishments in order to be prepared for new developments. Therefore I create a plan for each lesson with specific goals of student achievement. At times however, even the most carefully prepared lesson can evolve into unexpected pathways. In that case I remain flexible and attuned to the present situation, providing guidance and encouragement to explore that which opens before us. Read More

I firmly believe in establishing long term goals for which the class is being taught and developed. For beginner students who are children, I tend to lean into the music that they are more fond of listening to and develop an atmosphere of interest while using various colors, singing methods, rhymes that will grasp their attention and in the long run develop their ear. For young adults and up, I develop my lesson plans accordingly depending on their level of musicianship. Read More

I teach piano classically by reading music and patterns. As we progress, sometimes the student gets disinterested. At that point, I introduce the chord method as well as the number system- having them play certain progressions as I prompt them to play. My teaching technique for vocal students are as follows: I find out what their forte is vocally and find out what key they sing a particular song in. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements (or the Hal Leonard Guitar Method for guitar students) to build a strong foundation in reading music, proper technique, tone production, and fundamental skills. Once students have a solid grasp of the basics, I introduce age-appropriate solo repertoire to develop confidence and prepare them for their first recital performance. For adult learners, I tailor each lesson to their personal goals and musical interestswhether they are brand-new beginners, returning to music, or exploring a specific style. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. We will then work on repetroire focusing on what the student would sing at a recital performance. Read More
