Instruments: Voice

My teaching style stems from my experience as a professional singer. I’ve been in GRAMMY award winning groups and performed in plays, musicals, and choirs all around the world AND I’m still performing. Some teachers tell you what to do or how to sound, but they don’t have any idea what it’s like to live a performer’s lifestyle. They have a single way to teach all voices and all types of singing without concern for your individual needs. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

I began teaching voice during my undergraduate college years. Since then, I have taught both in-studio and in-home lessons. My students have consistently received high honors in solo and ensemble performances, as well as singing, leads in school and area productions. My piano students develop good beginning technique and theory skills that help prepare them as they move into the advanced repertoire. Both my piano and voice students perform in competitions regularly. Read More

As a member of an indie rock band, I understand the importance of being able to play songs on your instrument as quickly as possible! With this in mind, my lesson plan focuses primarily on breaking down songs that we want to learn how to play into their fundamental parts; the chords, the grooves, the fills, what-have-you, until we can put it all together. If there's a song that's particularly difficult and requires sound fundamentals, then we'll pound out those skills until we can get the results we want. Read More

Throughout the course of my collegiate career, the main method/approach to singing that I have been taught and teach to my own students as well, is that of relying on proper air/breath support to do the "heavy lifting" in singing- NOT putting any stress or tension on your vocal chords! Therefore, my methods/practices consist largely of proper breathing exercises during warmups, but also selecting solo repertoire that focuses on building proper and healthy bridges between your chest/head voice, as to create a smoother, less-noticeable transition that also sustains your voice throughout the course of your singing career. Instruments: Piano Voice

I have different methods for piano and voice: depending on the level of the piano student, I will use Faber method books and supplement performance pieces, technique lessons, games, theory discussions, etc. I do not use method books with voice students, although I do have a curriculum that I follow and adjust depending on the level and age of the voice student. I believe that while beginning and intermediate students continue to learn, it is important for them to practice different genres on their instrument -- this allows them to speak different musical languages, improves their understanding of style, and gives them a better context for their own gifts and interests. I like to begin instruction on a subject with understanding the fundamental concepts behind the techniques, and what is happening diatonically. Taking slow tempos and understanding musical ideas on a rhythmic level is essential for progress to happen. Proper voice leading, and legato movements are also ways in which to help communicate the musical idea Read More

My teaching style focuses on figuring out what makes the most sense to the student themselves, because I can toss as much information at them as possible and the only stuff that will truly stick will be information that they can break down and put into their own words. Building blocks of knowledge that they lay themselves set upon a foundation of musical love and intrigue build the best basis for consistent and wanted growth. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
