Mastering technique is the surest way to leave the student free to express themselves musically. After an initial assessment is made of the student's voice, I create a series of vocal exercises to address any vocal weaknesses/problems. The first 20 minutes of a typical lesson are spent warming up/performing technical exercises. For the past 20 years, I've studied and performed with keyboards, guitars and woodwind instruments while exploring a very wide variety of music ranging from classical and rock to jazz and avant-garde. I was hooked and for my Girl Scout Gold Award in high school, I ran a theater company for children of social service recipients. We study the theory for the vocalist, modern styles. We will practice a sense of rhythm, improvisation, work with a microphone.
