I have loved music from a very early age and I have been fortunate to study a variety of instruments and musical styles. I grew up studying the drums, piano, guitar, voice, and songwriting. I have been in a cover bands, original bands, jazz bands, choirs, a country band, a steel drum band, marching band, opera, a pop orchestra, a hip hop ensemble, and musical theatre productions. Regular practice, especially for younger students, is essential as it helps to create a progressive connection to their instrument. I've found that selecting music WITH my student, and not just assigning work that I want them to like, goes a long way in helping students enjoy singing and motivates them to practice and continue to learn. While my students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, my priority above all is to make sure students are having fun in their lessons (otherwise I'm not doing my job!). Read More

I will continually focus on vowel-forming exercises and funneling the singing air through the nasal cavity and middle of the face. This way, the student will understand how to produce a big sound without straining. Breathing exercises such as 'underwater noises' and 'tornado siren' are fun and keep the mood open and lively. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job!
