My teaching experience all started 2 and a half years ago when I first began teaching voice and piano in my home studio, working primarily with younger students. After some time teaching at home, I began to work at music studios and had the experience to teach students of all ages and see them progress and develop their technique. My experiences in teaching one-on-one lessons have allowed me to identify a student's strengths and weaknesses, as well as their interests, likes, and dislikes, right away and help take their talents to the best of their abilities. I have been teaching for two years now. It's been extremely fun to work with my students. 90% of my students so far have been Musical Theater singers. I adapt my teaching to their styles. What I teach for everyone is healthy singing. I have a wealth of pedagogical knowlege, and I know how the voice psyiologically works. For beginning piano students, I typically start with the Hal Leonard "My First Piano Adventure for the Young Beginner," series. As students progress in their piano studies, I begin introducing solo repertoire that will support the concepts being learned in the book series. I will also assign small writing projects from time to time, to sharpen students' compositional and music reading skills. I am a life-long performer and teacher. I have been singing myself since I danced around the living room to my Dad playing the accordian and singing, and been studying voice and performance intensly since the age of 15. I attended the Crane School of Music and earned a Bachelors of Music in Voice, Music Education and Elementary Education and continued on to earn a Masters of Arts in Theatre at SUNY Albany in NY. Im currently a singing teacher and a dance teacher currently with a studio. I teach whatever style the student is most interested in but I specialize in pop, rb, and musical theatre. I teach based on what is best suited for the learner. All students learn differently and at different speeds. Students will be able to choose repertoire and learn technique through the music they love. Students are encouraged to discuss the music that they are interested in, their goals, and interests. Students will be encouraged to practice and will be recognized when they have success and accomplishments. Learning about the student also helps me to understand their future goals with music.
