For teaching children, I approach teaching as to the execution of everyday and fun pieces, so that the child learns by, and in turn I introduce aspects of academic learning necessary to create a solid base. In the same way, with young and adults, I make a work placement of the necessary techniques for a good and fast implementation, from technical learning exercise repetitive and daily ices, as well as the elaboration of a plan that involves their daily chores. As an operatic singer, and a current full-time voice faculty at Houston Baptist University, I have known Muisikslessons ever since I moved to the USA in 2004 as a graduate student in vocal performance. Furthermore, I have learned more about your organization along my 15 years teaching experience. I meet the student where they are, intuiting their desires, fears, and needs. I believe the process of learning involves a step-by-step building of knowledge and skill, reinforcing previous accomplishments in order to be prepared for new developments. Therefore I create a plan for each lesson with specific goals of student achievement. At times however, even the most carefully prepared lesson can evolve into unexpected pathways. In that case I remain flexible and attuned to the present situation, providing guidance and encouragement to explore that which opens before us. Read More

I encourage progress, not the speed of which progress occurs. I set realistic goals and tasks that help focus on other aspects of performing so the student is not focused on their own voice and singing all the time. The very first thing I always do before each lesson is I ask "What do you want to work on today"? This can mean vocal technique, acting choices, interpretation or a particular passage within a song. Piano students: I usually use the Piano Adventures method, as I find it very methodical and balanced. In each class we do exercises to improve technique, sightreading, and performance along with music theory exercises. In a second part of the lesson we work on the songs having as main goal the creation of a repertoire that the student can play later to family and friends. I like to include some singing in my piano lessons too. Read More
