For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

Voice: First 40-60% of each lesson: Voice Building and Technique (Working on the student's range, placement, support, alignment, and vowel clarity). Theory and sightreading is introduced on day-one, and emphasized in every lesson going forward. Last 40% of each lesson: Repertoire (With every student, I ask that YOU pick one song that you want to sing, in any genre of your choice, and I will in turn supply you with a piece that both suits you, but will challenge you as well. I am classically trained (obviously) and I am the first and still only person in my family to graduate from a four year college and later graduate school, having earned BM and MM degrees in Piano Performance with a minor in organ at Shenandoah University. In addition to 27 years of music ministry, 26 years as an accompanist and/or MD (classical and music theatre settings) and of course 16 years of private piano teaching, my greatest professional accomplishment is having played at Carnegie Hall in June 2014.
