During my teenage years, I accompanied my church and high school concert choir. After graduating from college, I became certified in music and decided to teach piano full-time. Everything we do on stage begins with breath. Sing, Acting, Dancing- all of these require disciplined breath management. Once a strong foundation of good breathing is laid, I tend to use visual-spacial prompts to get the singer to feel the changes rather than use pedagogical terminology. While this is a wonderful set of tools, I will always defer to the student's learning style. I believe in teaching piano students the basics and how to read music to start. I have taught using almost every piano series available. For voice students, I teach technique, do breathing and vocal exercises, and work on songs. I teach basic music reading, interpretation of songs, as well as good techique and diction. Guitar Teacher at Afterschool Enrichment Solutions - October 2017 to March 2020 Taught guitar, chess, coding, and engineering after school classes at several schools in San Diego. This included Kavod Elementary School, Washington Elementary School, San Diego Jewish Academy, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and Jonas Salk Elementary. • Curriculum for guitar included method book learning from Hal Leonard, as well as beginner songs for kids. • Curriculum for chess involved teaching the moves for each piece, beginner practice games only using a few pieces, and eventually full chess matches. • Curriculum for coding involved using a beginner level coding system to teach students the basics of how computer programs work. • Curriculum for engineering involved building small robots and having those robots perform simple tasks. In college I majored in music education and developed tools to introduce beginners, both children and older amateurs, to music.
