My lessons focus on trouble areas identified during the initial lesson. I would develop a plan of attack setting realistic goals that are both measureable, realistic and obtainable to achieve. A usual model lesson would consist of the following segments: 1. Intonation - I would spend about 5-10 minutes in this area training the student to properly find the center of pitch and listen for an adaptive center of pitch. For young children I will start with the basics of music. Laying the fondation for years to come. With young children it is important to not overtax the voice and to consider their attention span. These lesson shouldn't last more than a half hour. For beginning students I want to focus on breath, posture, pure vowels and natural consonants. I have been teaching piano 20 years ago as a first job out of a small church in Millersburg, Ohio. I had been taking piano since I was three and had been doing competition piano. I then went to Otterbein College and earned my degree in Voice. From there I started working for Music and Arts in Westerville as a piano instructor for 10 years.
