I started teaching during my time at NYU. An interesting fact about my particular vocal journey is that because I had never really had formal voice training, I was learning vocal concepts from a scientific and theoretical perspective in the classroom while concurrently learning them in my own body and voice in my own lessons. I think this gave my a unique perspective into how our bodies naturally learn and acquire new skills as they relate to singing. Read More

I got a 5 on the AP Music Theory exam, and have an overview of theoretical and performance education in contemporary, classical, and jazz idioms. I have taught private hour long piano lessons one-on-one with young children and adults, and taught music theory in group classes as well as privately, through the Shalala MusicReach Program at the University of Miami. Some other tidbits about me are that I have Perfect Pitch, which means that I can quickly learn and notate music for you that you want to learn, and that I am also proficient in music production and notation software if you need help or want to record anything Read More

I started teaching when i started college. I was first a substitute teacher. From then, I slowly built up my student database. I have worked for many music schools and have always had a packed schedule. I make sure the student feels at home and comfortable when taking lessons. I believe music education is important these days. Many schools are taking away their music programs. When teaching, I am confident in my skills for keeping the student interested, learning, and happy. Read More

Instruments: Voice

I began teaching part time in September of 2015 with a handful of private students in Midtown Manhattan. This has since grown and I have worked with experience levels ranging from never-before-sung to moderately advanced students. Since the technique I utilize is based in creating healthy sound, it can be applied everywhere: the emphasis of relaxing and expanding one's body-awareness makes it applicable to everyone including those who have been studying for years, or are even choosing to continue study with another teacher simultaneously. I start off all beginning students by teaching them the fundamentals of singing. If students have taken lessons in the past, I work on reviewing fundamental concepts with them. When a student first begins lessons, I typically spend more time on helping to build the student's technique than on repertoire, and as the student progresses, I split the lesson more equally between the two components. I believe in motivating students by helping them learn the repertoire to which they are most attracted, though I do also give them repertoire of styles with which they may be less familiar in order to help them solidify their technique. I began teaching in my college days, when I would help friends learn different instruments. My experience includes working at School of Rock Red Bank, where I taught guitar, drums and bass. I encourage my students to develop their own musical tastes and to learn music as a language. As a songwriter, I think that it is always a good idea for students of any level to pursue their own compositional goals. Read More

I like my lessons to be fun! I like to start my lesson with a "music swap": we each play one minute of a song that we found that week from youtube or spotify and take 30-60 seconds to say why we found it interesting or inspiring (it can be any genre). We then aim to discuss and practice a new technical skill and use exercises to develop it, we work on a song from the method series or a song that the student wants to work on (I often transpose pop/rock songs for my students), and then rhythm training, ear training, and music theory concepts are interspersed throughout. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
