I began teaching private music lessons in college in 2003. I have been teaching lessons consistently for the last 10 years from my home studio, online, as well as traveling to the students' home. I find great pleasure in hearing a student's progress, that's why I encourage recording their practice and having a consistent practice schedule. I feel it is important to give positive reinforcement and feedback to students. I am always excited to bring on new students of many different age groups! I believe it is important to keep the lesson interesting to the student by incorporating music for technique but also songs that the student enjoys playing. For classical and opera singing, I teach a healthy Bel Canto technique rooted in the Italian school of singing. I am also skilled in teaching SOVT style, but I typically avoid it with beginning singers. For musical theater and pop, I teach healthy belting techniques that preserve vocal quality and focus on a connection to the chest and body, alleviating vocal tension. For my guitar students, I teach fingering techniques and basic chords first, and then I focus on giving each student a basic repertoire--several pieces they already know and like to showcase their abilities and track progress. I found the experience to be fulfilling and self revealing as to how I understood my own concept of singing. Since then, I have recently begun teaching a number of students who, thanks to my experiences as a resident artist with an opera company and recent performances with festivals, I feel have more to gain from me. He was also a singer, dancer, and percussionist for Beat (La fiesta mondiale de percussion) which toured in casinos and venues across North America. He has also recorded and performed drums with many well-known artists in Canada. Among others, Matt was a member of the popular Montreal band Redcore (drums, composer, and vocals) and played drums with the up-and-coming Los Angeles-based bands U.G.L.Y (Chris Brown Entertainment), Standing Shadows, Erick Morillo, and CB7 (drums and back vocals) who just came back from opening for 30 Seconds To Mars on their US tour.
