I am a very relaxed teacher - I know that we do our best musical work when we are free from the constraints of judgment. So, I work very hard to create an environment of free artistic expression for my students, where they can feel at liberty to take chances in their music and know that I will be there to encourage them and help them find their way to what it is they aim to achieve musically. Practical Application: I believe in the importance of practical application. While theoretical concepts are crucial, I incorporate hands-on learning right from the beginning. Students learn by doing, which fosters a deeper understanding and connection with the material. Creativity and Exploration: Encouraging creativity is central to my teaching approach. I guide students to explore their musical ideas, experiment with different styles, and even compose their music. This not only sparks their imagination but also cultivates a sense of ownership and pride in their musical journey. Read More

I create a custom lesson plan for each student, as every voice is different, and everyone comes with a different set of goals in mind. Every student can expect to be asked what their goals are, whether they are just to have fun and sing, work towards competing in local competitions, or to audition for a choir or show, and lessons and repetoire will be based on those goals. Every student can also expect to do do basic vocal exercises at every lesson to warm up their voice, and to more effectively teach technique and gauge progress. Read More

My teaching style is very much praxial and based off of skill reinforcement. For any instrument, I will incorporate the Kodaly method (solfege) of musicianship into the curriculum. For me, my goal is to teach the student how to learn for themselves. I focus on practice techniques, assessment of tone, sound, rhythms, pitches, etc. Rather than spoon feed all of the answers to the students, I wish to encourage each musician to develop their own critical mind towards the art that they create. I have taught students of all ages in music practice, theory, and foreign language in both group and individual settings. Read More

I'm a self-motivated, adaptable, and encouraging instructor with 14 years of performing experience and 8 years of teaching experience (6 professional). I'm an expert in vocals, piano, guitar, drums, songwriting, and I also play bass and ukulele. I graduated from University of Washington Seattle in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. I've performed countless times in competitive jazz (national), percussion, rock, drum-line, and concert ensembles. I also had the privilege of training and performing with renowned world music artists such as Amarilys Rios (Afro-Caribbean Bomba Percussion), Phyllis Byrdwell (Gospel Vocals), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (South Indian Classical). My teaching style is goal-oriented and centers on positive reinforcement. This should be fun, not a chore. I love creating weekly/monthly/yearly goals so the student has something tangible to work towards. That might be a showcase for parents, a more formal recital, or an audition for a group! Each student brings a unique perspective to the lesson room, which is what makes it so exciting for me. No two students are the same, which mean I can learn something from the student as well.
