My name is Amber, and I am a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education, as well as my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance. In addition to directing the Crimson Youth Choir and teaching privately in the IUPCMS, I directed/arranged music for the IUP Crimson Chords, an elite all-female a capella jazz ensemble. Last fall, I also directed Homer-Center’s Musical Annie and worked on Marion Center’s Musical Marry Poppins. Read More

I am a huge optimist when it comes to my teaching style. As I cater to each student, we will always celebrate the small wins! Singing is not a linear process but rather a journey that takes time and as long as you try, I will be right by your side rooting for you consistently to be the best you that you can be! In the journey of opening and discovering the voice, I remind students of the physical and mental advantages they can use in order for clear tones and healthy technique! Read More

I am passionate about teaching. Music education is but a second thought of most of our children's primary educational settings, so I wanted to create a learning environment that focuses on performance and execution. I am a composer and arranger, so I also like to infuse some basic music theory and compositional/improvisational techniques into my lessons. In short, I am trying to foster new artists! Read More

I saw the "light bulb" go off above his head and the lesson went from tears to cheers! From there, I taught at Van Moody School of music where I met students of all types from those with autism to those that were exceptionally gifted in music. Parents and students alike that I come across in my daily doings in the streets hug me and compliment me on how great of a teacher and influence I had on them and their children. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school, as I began teaching private lessons part time 7 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 3 years since graduating college. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I break up lessons into three parts - warmups/breathing exercises, learning a song, and acting the song. Warmups prepare the voice to sing without any strain. I also implement vocal exercises during warmups where we work on range and quality. During the first lesson with the student, I get to know what they want to work towards in terms of repertoire and suggest a few pieces. We will typically add one or two songs per week in order to build a solid repertoire. Read More

I start my students with a single lesson where I gain a knowledge about the student's musical abilities and personality. I don't generally start with a single method book, because I believe that in individual lessons, the methods used should be tailored to fit the student. I will pull from Essential Elements, Accent on Achievement, and Standard of Excellence, as well as writing and devising my own warm ups and methods. Read More
