My teaching is rooted in the philosophy of functional singing, which means everything I teach has a purpose rooted in the physiology of singing. We do a lot of different exercises and say a lot of funny sounding words, but each exercise is carefully crafted to maximize training your voice's flexibility, agility, or strength. Similar to how you might do a bicep curl to make your bicep stronger, vocal exercises are part of a broader "vocal workout" regimen based on what your voice needs on any given day. Read More

I provide a structured yet stress-free environment when teaching. I custom make the lesson plans to meet the need of each student, and I play or sing each assignment, then have the student go through everything once before doing it at home. I am also available by phone if a student needs to contact me regarding a problem with their lesson at home. I also include in each lesson music computer time which works on their ear-training, music history and other theory as needed. Read More

The more I develop my teaching skills, the better my understanding of my own performance practices and vocal technique will be; the stronger my performance skills become, the more I will be able to relate to my students experiences and be a more well-rounded resource for them. My educational studies have included a Master's in Classical Voice and an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy from New York University Steinhardt, and a Master's in Vocal Performance Literature and a Bachelor's in Vocal Music Education from Eastern Illinois University.
