For all my students I let them be opened to what they wanted to learn. Genres , artist etc. I believe as an artist you should make your own choices and see for yourself what kind of singer you want to be. That starts with the choice of song you choice then we can work our way up to learning it and perfecting it. Furthermore, we can expand on learning other songs that you may or may not feeling comfortable singing to give your repertoire a variety of genres and artist. Read More

I've taught lessons for a total of 8 years in New York City, Boston, and Midwestern Illinois. I've taught all kinds of students: children, teens, college students, adults, and retirees. Each student has come with their own goals and passions, and I enjoy helping each individual uncover, free, and develop the natural voice within. In addition to setting each student up with a solid vocal technique, I've taught basic music and vocal health to young children (ages 5-7), developed music reading skills in teens and young adults, helped retirees improve technically so they can better contribute to their community choirs, and even instructed a folk singer in improvisation, songwriting, and healthy folk vocal technique. I like to pack my lessons with information and fun. Typically my lessons are half warm-up, half working through music. In the first half, we address technique, breath, posture, placement, tongue and larynx position, etc. Because a strong foundation is the basis of good healthy singing in any style. In the second half, we focus on musicality, expression, difference in style, and your interpretation. This is where science meets art and you find YOUR voice! Read More

I was born and raised in Australia. I graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2000, and have since performed in a number of musicals and theatre productions in Oz, including Oklahoma, Les Miserables and The Vagina Monologues (2007 ITA Best Actress Award). As a critically acclaimed cabaret performer, I toured the cabaret and festival circuits in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth before moving to NYC last year. I am an Alumni of the International Cabaret Conference at Yale, won last year’s Annual Broadway Spring Festival Shana Farr Cabaret Competition and have since performed solo cabarets at the Metropolitan Room and The Duplex. I do not stick to one method or style of teaching as each student is different. A twelve-year-old student who wants to write songs, and sing Taylor Swift, will need a very different approach than a fifty-year-old opera singer. However, I do implement two very important key points in my teaching: Honesty and health. This is done by first making sure the artist (I prefer to refer to my students as artists as a sign of respect, and because I’m learning from them as well) has proper technique. Read More

For most students, I typically start with breathing exercises and warm ups to learn the student's voice. I would ask for the student to prepare a song of their choice and we would typically spend a few lessons learning the fundamentals and engaging in proper technique. I like to make learning fun, so there are a few exercises that I have up my sleeve that are engaging and fun, no matter what the student's ability level may be. Read More

For beginners, I typically start with the 24 Italian Aria book. We pick a song that the student likes best and work on that. At the same time, we also work on a song that interests the student within reason. There must be a basic grasp of the fundamentals of technique. First and foremost, I believe in healthy and safe singing. I believe that there is healthy and safe singing in every genre, but one must have an understanding of bel canto singing first to be able to sing properly in every genre. Read More
