Everything I ask a student to do is based on the anatomy and psysiology of their vocal instrument. I use Czerny for the intermediate student. For voice- I work to build a solid understanding of breath, posture, vowel sounds and shapes, singing legato, etc. I believe a classical technique in both instruments is the best foundation for growth into any style. To help students become familiar with rhythms, I occasionally use clapping exercises and even collaborate with them to create a song together. When I teach music, I make sure to emphasize sustainability. It's important to me that my students understand how to take care of their instruments, use resources efficiently, and appreciate the natural world that inspires music.
