 Music is a very physical thing as well as a very abstract thing.  In my lessons, there will be kennistetic learning through movement as well as teaching through sensation. Using tools like Solfege it helps create muscle memory and tuning. Piano students will learn a wealth of theory knowledge, correct posture and fingering patterns. I began teaching my first piano student when I was 14 years old. I have since enjoyed teaching in many different ways. I've taught private students, homeschool choruses, pre-K-8th grade (using music curriculum that I created), 8th grade science students, large choirs of beautiful angelic children's voices, adult church choirs, youth and adult bands, gospel choirs, reading literacy students,and soldier medicshow to prepare for their responsibilities. In 2010, I graduated from Presbyterian College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sacred Music. During my time at PC, I sang and accompanied the Presbyterian College Choir, Cantare! While there, I tutored several classmates in musical theatre, taught private piano lessons, and worked with several classmates on their voice pieces for our recital at the end of each semester. As the only student to play piano and have a classical background in voice, I was the go-to-guy when people needed help. After graduating, I worked as a choreographer for a local community theatre, I taught gymnastics (former gymnast of 8 years), and continued to work with students and friends in both voice and piano. In the past, I have used several different band methods and generally like to first use the book that the students' school district is using. As the student becomes more accomplished, I supplement with method books and solo literature from the repertoire of the individual instrument. For the younger student, additionally, I like to work with improvising and making up his/her own songs, so that they enjoy and develop a sense of accomplishment in composing their own music. Read More
