I'm very passionate about being honest and straightforward with my students. I'm very prone to telling my students not just what I do but why I do it, as I believe it's important to develop holistic thinking. I also think it's important to get students curious about as much related to the art form as possible. So, I include extra information about history, theory, other aspects of the canon, etc. Read More

It's very important for me to see my students progress without tension and learn to sing with ease and build breath support and ear training over time. Vocal health and improving vocal quality across a singer's range is also of utmost importance. I tailor lessons according to the singer's level of proficiency and the complexity of the material or repertoire covered. Whether the goal is to prepare for an audition or simply improve your singing voice, we then tackle the fun part of performance, where I guide students in bringing the story of the character and song to life. My experience as a teacher dates back to my community college years, as I began teaching privately in 2013. Something I have learned over the years is that regular and consistent practice time is our best friend as musicians. Singing is a form of exercise and the more we repeat healthy vocal habits, the better we will sing. This is why I encourage all of my students to set some time aside to work on their voice and music. I strive to create a safe space for my students where they can dive into their material and feel empowered through learning and practicing. Some weeks a piano student might complete the material rapidly and some weeks, they may want to go slower, taking their time, therefore they excel at their own comfort level and don't feel as though there is a race. With voice, I prefer to let the student pick songs that they enjoy singing and speak to their own heart. Read More

For all students I access what your musical background is and what may be lacking from your knowledge and playing. I also ask what your particular goals and things you would like to learn are. From there then we will start to tailor the lesson as both us see fit. In general I like a student to be able to play three simple melodies before moving on to chords, rhythms, and music theory.
