Recently I was hired as piano instructor for Quartertonez Music, in Washington DC. Also, I have had experience teaching and studying music education under my high school mentor, renowned music teacher Tim Savage; I was his student-teacher for a semester course at St. Lawrence University. Additionally, throughout my experience as his music student, his teaching approach has infused music education and facilitation lessons within the musical instruction itself. My past teaching experience also includes being a Drill Instructor for the Italian Department at Vassar College for two years during my time as an undergrad (I not only "ran drills" for students who had already started learning the material, but also had to compensate in a variety of ways for the unsuccessful, dysfunctional, or half-hearted engagement that is typical in a foreign language class). The most satisfying moment as a teacher is when a student finally "gets it", and for students, I find that lessons are the most fun when the student feels capable and not overwhelmed. I like to challenge my students and encourage them to exceed even their own expectations of their abilities. With this in mind, my overall teaching philosophy emphasizes gaining technical mastery over the student's chosen instrument, strong music reading and theory skills, along with creativity and improvisation to turn them into well rounded players who can hold their own in just about any music setting from the stage to the studio. - As a foundation principle of the Functional Voice Method communication is essential. There should be a very open and honest dialog between teacher and student. You can, and I encourage my students to ask, propose and work together. - Because posture, movement and breathe have such a mutual influence; we usually need some work or excercise regarding the body (movements envolving legs, arms, walking, jumping and a large etcetera). - Having fun while training is extremely important to me. My teach style varies based on the need of the student. I have students that are serious so I would create a syllabus that consist of taking exams or perform in recitals. My other students who just want to have fun with piano, I teach them little pop songs. My method is based on what the student desire. I want my students to enjoy playing the piano. I want them to learn how to play so they can express themselves. Read More

Piano: For beginning students who are children, i typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Methods. Once students have developed the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in. I will then guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun no matter their ability level. Voice: For beginning students, I will explore the voice types (Soprano, Mezzo Soprano, Tenor, Baritone, Bass) by learning vocal scales in order to determine the repertoire appropriate for each individual student. I am very passionate about music, and I try to motivate my students towards a similar love of music of all styles and genres. In 2014, I have completed my studies at Boston University, where I completed a PhD in Musicology with a focus on jazz of the 1930s and 1940s. I have performed at such venues as the Kennedy Center, the Boston Symphony Hall, the Taylor House, and the Kreeger Museum as a solo and ensemble musician. Read More

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
It’s truly a part of who I am When I was a very very little kid my family told me I had perfect pitch as I sang and wrote songs around the house so I educated myself with their help getting me everything I needed and taking me to lessons because they are the most incredible people ever ! I knew it from then that was the only job I ever wanted and was ever gonna have. And I know I’m most people need other jobs but not me I refused to get any other job but the money I make from my music and my family helped me do that. I was always a dramatic performer. I always unlike the other kids was never nervous I was always excited I lived for the spotlight and the more people in the crowd made me do better and feel more alive and excited performing. Plus I like dress up. ????? This is simply who I am and what I am called by God to do I feel it with every fiber of my being. I will bring my gift of music and share it with the world. I’d enjoy the chance helping others do the same with their talents too. Music and Singing Completes me. It’s my purpose.

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Trust Me You Will Know By Their Passion for Music………… If it’s in Their Heart then it will Show and when it comes out through song its beautiful….

When will I start to see results?
Everyone learns at their own pace so this is hard to foresee however the student will learn something new resulting in something new that they didn’t know before that’ll help them improve even more at the next upcoming steps that they can take home and practice on their own

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
1st I’d say Patience Next it’s okay to not get something the first time simply Try it again (But it is important to remember don’t overdo it pushing any notes in your chest voice)

...Jones   Carnival of the Animals was one of the only classical music-inspired cartoons by Chuck Jones for which Michael Maltese did not write the story; this plot came from Jones himself.   It was based on the musical work of the same name by Camille Saint-Saëns and poetry by Ogden Nash. CBS aired this episode during prime-time–an obvious nod to Chuck Jones’ loyal adult following.   Watch sections of it here:   Chuck Jones’ and Michael Maltese’s Classical Music Legacy   “Of course, these pieces can’t be fully appreciated when heard out of context, or in commercials and cartoons,” said Gadea. “But they ... Teaching Violin: Tips for New Teachers

...rehearsals, and disappointments in general.   How Will You Find Support? As mentioned earlier, teaching violin is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. You may find that teaching in a music studio, with a group of music instructors, is just the thing. If you have several violin teachers together, you can trade tips or pinch-hit for days when someone is out with a cold, or has an official obligation that cannot be avoided (think jury duty). Sometimes, you may be the only music ... Read More
