Instruments: Voice

My teaching experience dates back to around 2017 when I first took a class in vocal pedagogy. In the class, I learned about the inner workings of the voice, the musculature and how to properly teach voices of any age. Since then, I have been working diligently to relay the most valuable information from my own teachers to my own students including proper breath support, open throat singing, and above all, having fun while doing so. My teaching experience goes back to my college days, as I began teaching private adult lessons for my Studio class 5 years ago and have been teaching privately ever since. For the past year, however, I've been an elementary music teacher in Washington, D.C. I am certified to teach Pre-K-12th grades in public schools, although I usually coach adults privately. I now live in Richmond and gig around the area frequently at weddings, churches, and local venues/theatres. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I customize the curriculum and repertory for each of my students based on their personal goals, which we will discuss in the first lessons. Do you want to play for yourself or to perform publicly? What kinds of repertory appeal to you and how much time do you have to practice? From there we will create a plan that best meets these goals. For beginners, this will include a method book (I often use Faber Piano Adventures for young beginners and Alfred Adult-In-One methods) to get you started. Read More

Regular practice is essential for all developing musicians as it tends to produce continuous musical growth and passion for their instrument. With both voice and piano, I like to combine both classical and modern music because it lies a solid foundation, while also keeping students engaged and having fun. Read More

For beginning piano students, I use a combination of books from Alfred's, Faber, John Thompson's. At the same time, I emphasize proper finger technique, shape, and position. For more advanced piano students I prefer exercises from Hanon, Czerny, and Bartk. For beginning guitar students, I prefer Mel Bay books. However, for guitar students I also use a much more individual and custom approach for learning how to get a good sound out of the guitar through proper hand position, finger placement and pressure, and string picking. What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Doing what I feel I am called to do use my gift God gave me to make a positive difference in the world and make the world a happier place but spreading joy using my talents Singing for God Spreading his word to his people as a church cantor and the official parish committee singer for three churches of St Oscar Romero Parish. My HomeTown Parish.

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
It’s truly a part of who I am When I was a very very little kid my family told me I had perfect pitch as I sang and wrote songs around the house so I educated myself with their help getting me everything I needed and taking me to lessons because they are the most incredible people ever ! I knew it from then that was the only job I ever wanted and was ever gonna have. And I know I’m most people need other jobs but not me I refused to get any other job but the money I make from my music and my family helped me do that. I was always a dramatic performer. I always unlike the other kids was never nervous I was always excited I lived for the spotlight and the more people in the crowd made me do better and feel more alive and excited performing. Plus I like dress up. ????? This is simply who I am and what I am called by God to do I feel it with every fiber of my being. I will bring my gift of music and share it with the world. I’d enjoy the chance helping others do the same with their talents too. Music and Singing Completes me. It’s my purpose.

How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
Trust Me You Will Know By Their Passion for Music………… If it’s in Their Heart then it will Show and when it comes out through song its beautiful….

When will I start to see results?
Everyone learns at their own pace so this is hard to foresee however the student will learn something new resulting in something new that they didn’t know before that’ll help them improve even more at the next upcoming steps that they can take home and practice on their own

What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
1st I’d say Patience Next it’s okay to not get something the first time simply Try it again (But it is important to remember don’t overdo it pushing any notes in your chest voice)

...Jones   Carnival of the Animals was one of the only classical music-inspired cartoons by Chuck Jones for which Michael Maltese did not write the story; this plot came from Jones himself.   It was based on the musical work of the same name by Camille Saint-Saëns and poetry by Ogden Nash. CBS aired this episode during prime-time–an obvious nod to Chuck Jones’ loyal adult following.   Watch sections of it here:   Chuck Jones’ and Michael Maltese’s Classical Music Legacy   “Of course, these pieces can’t be fully appreciated when heard out of context, or in commercials and cartoons,” said Gadea. “But they ... Teaching Violin: Tips for New Teachers

...rehearsals, and disappointments in general.   How Will You Find Support? As mentioned earlier, teaching violin is physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding. Violin teachers need to have a support system in order to be at their best and to be prepared for their work. You may find that teaching in a music studio, with a group of music instructors, is just the thing. If you have several violin teachers together, you can trade tips or pinch-hit for days when someone is out with a cold, or has an official obligation that cannot be avoided (think jury duty). Sometimes, you may be the only music ... Read More

Your song won’t go anywhere without a good melody, even if the rest of the sections are great. Think about it: when you remember your favorite songs, what comes to mind? It’s probably the melody line sung during the chorus. Well-known popular songs like the Happy Birthday song ... Read More
