Back when I was in Venezuela, I was playing in my city's orchestra the entire time from 2002 to 2018. In that orchestra, which is a part of the renowned "El Sistema". El Sistema is a system that helps underserved communities get the music knowledge they would otherwise not be able to get. We had different levels of orchestras, from beginners to advanced. My teaching style is flexible and fun! I love seeing students learn and develop a passion for music. While it is important to correct errors in order to be able to learn, i think it is equally if not more important to focus on a students accomplishments. Setting realistic goals is also important when working with students. My students need to feel good about their playing and what they have accomplished in order to continue to be willing to work towards their goals. Read More

I grew up as a "military brat" and then served in the Marine Corps. Moving to many different states and overseas countries has made me more well-rounded and appreciative of cultures. I developed a greater appreciation for music, proving it as a universal language among people holding diverse traditions. Some things I enjoy doing: teaching kids of all ages at church, creating things with carpentry/woodworking, producing artwork, reading, and going to the beach. Read More

My methods fall into 4 categories: 1) Essential Technique- Students will learn the basics from the Essential Elements books, Etude books such as Wolfahrt and Dont, and customized materials 2) Music Theory and History- Students will learn note reading, key signatures, scales and arpeggios, intervals, rhythm and music history through customized materials and games 3) Solo- Students will choose solos from the Suzuki violin/viola series, or another skill-appropriate solo 4) Ensemble- Once the student has basic familiarity with his or her instrument, I will find them an appropriate ensemble opportunity such as youth orchestra, All-County/All-State Orchestra, adult community orchestra or chamber music Read More
