I have been surrounded by music all my life. Starting at the age of three and lasting throughout elementary school, I was dancing folkloric Bolivian dances alongside family and friends at many ethnic dance events. In middle school and high school I was heavily involved in choir. In college I was introduced to and learned different styles of music, gigged around the Sanford and Lake Mary area with a jazz quintet, and was hired by the music program to be the music theory tutor. I have taught privately off and on through-out the years in several cities that I've lived in. I like to challenge students but not expect more than they are able to deliver. I like to concentrate and focus on the basics of playing while expanding on the students ability. I believe strongly in a good daily warm-up and daily routine. I believe that with 30-45 minutes of daily practice time, any student can see noticeable, continual improvement. Read More

There are many preparatory series available for beginning students. I am not particular about which series I work with. Often there are students with previous instructors and I have no trouble picking up where the student left off. I can recommend books or a series as well as supplemental skills practice books. There are many wonderful books that can be easily purchased online. Sheet music is also available online. I can show students where to look for the music they want to learn. Read More

In middle and high school, I performed on saxophone, bassoon, drum set, all percussion, and guitar every year. I performed jazz, classical, military, big band, and marching band music. Served as head of the drumline in high school and taught many musicians how to perform on the snare drum, multi-tenors, bass drums, and mallet percussion. In college, I got more busy with schoolwork :( but I had time to compose music on my own and join a local pop-punk band called Shout London. Read More

There are different publishers that I use. Depending on the age, personality, age and interests of the students. It can vary; either Bastien, John Thompson, Alfred Publishing, Hal Leonard or any other I find appropriate. In a beginners face I explain notation values, names, posture and what affects their learning. Depending on the age of the student I decide if the material is suitable for their capacity of learning. We do different level and If I see that the student is a fast learner I upgrade them to an adult book. Read More

Due to my experience working with multiple grade/age levels, I have learned to carefully fine tune my teaching strategy for each individual student that I work with. At the beginner level I typically work from method books to ensure a solid development of performance fundamentals. I also like to spend a good bit of time establishing successful warm-up and practice routines. With intermediate level students I continue with more challenging method books as well as standard musical excerpts and etudes. Read More
