For beginning students I usually start with Essential Elements 2000 for strings because it helps them get familiarized with the notes on the music staff even when they don't have any music theory knowledge. I also like to use Suzuki as they progress with the instrument and know the essentials like how to hold the instrument properly and how to hold the bow properly. Suzuki is also for beginners but it has a little more complex exercises which is why I wait to introduce Suzuki to them. Read More

I started playing violin at the age of nine through my elementary schools string program. In addition to performing with the Discovery Middle School and Timber Creek High School orchestras, I participated every year in the all-county and all-state orchestras and served as associate concertmaster of the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra. I completed a double major in general music and engineering at Northwestern University in Chicago. Practice makes perfect. I ask students to practice as often as possible, no matter the skill level. I prefer students to start practice with scales and warm-up drills, then move on to composed pieces. Along with practice, I hope that students will not only play, but listen to their music, such as the Suzuki method. The more familiar students are with the different pitches in a song, the better they will be able to adjust their performance to correctly match. Read More

I teach both the Classical and Suzuki methods. I have students of all ages so it varies which student is learning which method. The best for children is the Suzuki method that is widely used in the USA. Classical methods can be used when I teach young adults and adults. It is pretty flexible though and I sometimes teach younger children the classical method. I like challenges and I often have children and older students that express different tempers. Read More
