My biggest hope for my students is that they come away from lessons with a love for music. Every student is a unique player with their own pace, set of hurdles, focus, and interests, and I am committed to tailoring my teaching approach to each individual student. It is important to me that each student progresses at a realistic pace for themselves, tries their best, and has fun with the music they are learning. Read More

I have been playing for over 11 years now. I began when I was in the 2nd grade and havent stopped it, I fell in love with it!! When I started middle school, my teacher from orchestra asked me to go into her class after my class with her and help out with the 6th graders. During that time, I helped the students tune their violins and took them out in sections to work on their parts and answer any questions they had on the piece they were working on. Read More

My teaching style may be very detailed, but I believe that a certain level of firmness, honesty, as well as kindness is needed to provide a successful violin learning experience. I want each student to be able to have fun while also feeling that they are improving as well. Each student progresses at their own pace and I will tailor my teaching according to each students unique learning abilities. I believe that what is most important for a student isn't winning competitions but is finding their own love and inspiration for the music they are creating. Read More

The approach to the violin with the orthodox method can be particularly frustrating. The technique is important but equally important is to develop the ability and taste of playing together right away. For this reason, regardless of the styles you want to deepen, I play as much as possible together with the student whether it is classical duets, folk songs or jazz. For the more advanced students a part of the study of the accompaniment is reserved as well as for soloists Calibrating the objectives based on the abilities of the age and the talent of the students is an attention that can avoid frustrations and lead everyone to the common goal of the musicians: to express and continuously improve. What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
I'm proud to just have been able

Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
I have had

Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I use Hal Leonard's books for young children, adolescent and adult students for both guitar and bass guitar. They are pretty easy to comprehend style of book. Each lesson builds upon itself and the lessons are numbered to keep track of progress and to know what to study and practice. For children 10 and under, I recommend Hal Leonard's children's guitar method book #1 and move on from there. I do introduce some lessons from the adult book to the student when they are ready. For 11 and over, I recommend Hal Leonard's guitar method book #1. Just like the children's book, the lessons are numbered to keep track of progress and to know what to study and practice. There are also follow up books to the ones I have mentioned. I also incorporate non book related picking exercises and other tricks of the trade I have learned and am still learning into the lessons.

What is your dream piece to perform and why?
My own "masterpiece" which I have yet to compose. I was never really one to play cover songs, although I have played a few cover songs during sets, including Gimme Shelter, Brown Sugar and Honkey Tonk Women (both open G alternate runing,) Dead Flowers, The Spider and The Fly, and Midnight Rambler by the Rolling Stones, Johnny Be Good and Carol by Chuck Berry and my former band The Tombstones played a great rendition, in our own style of Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower which was a crowd favorite . My favorite guitar solo is by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd on Comfortably Numb, which still gives me goose bumps till this day, I'd still have to say my "dream piece" would have to be something I had written or worked with other musicians to create as a masterpiece. I've written and co-written some good songs but I don't consider them masterpieces, although one particular nameless Blues song in the key of E is close.

If you weren't a musician what do you think you'd be doing instead?
It's really hard to think what else I'd be doing, because music is my life, it's my family's legacy. We're talking over a hundred years of professional musicians in my bloodline, possibly more. My BMX career is long over, but I always wanted to teach. I'm happy to be a music teacher and will continue to do so but, if I didn't teach musical arts, I'd probably teach High school high school level History or Philosophy. I love history and philosophy and may have persued that route if things panned out differently. I'd probably want to teach a fun college level elective like Conspiracy Theories. I'm also a writer and have had a few poems published by small independent magazines. I'm also currently writing a Sci-fi/thriller novel in my spare time.

...that are very affordable and play fairly well. You can also find a brand called First Act in stores like Wal-mart, and while I would still recommend Yamaha, First Act guitars do play okay and have a good, bright sound for their price point. If you have a bit more to spend, consider a Baby Taylor. These 3/4 size guitars cost a bit more but are much higher quality – even the pros would like to play on these! Guitar size isn’t the only factor when determining the best age to start guitar lessons. The young guitar student also needs sufficient dexterity and strength in their fingers and hands to successfully play guitar notes and chords. If ... Read More
