I began teaching private lessons in college as a side job, but due to touring with orchestras I was unable to truly develop my own studio. I also volunteer taught students from low-income families through the Azusa Pacific Conservatory for two years. In the summers of 2010 and 2011, I took over a former teacher's studio of 20+ students while he toured in Europe. I have been working in National Parks for the past 3 years and have always brought my instruments with me. Read More

I usually beginwith warm-ups, scales, music theory, then continue with reviewing past homework, focusing on posture, rhythm, technique, etc. Lastly, we will sightread and preview the next pieces to be assigned for homework. Pace is set mostly by the student and how much they practice, but I will always nudge the student to improve in musicianship and posture after every lesson, with patience and perseverance. Read More

Every student is different, and learns at their own pace. With that being said, I find it important to devise lesson plans that are personal and cater to students individually. I try to find out what inspires young students so that I can form lesson plans that addresses their aspirations. Read More

I have been a musician since I can remember. I come from a musical family all multi instrumentalists. I received my BA Music from San Diego State University and studied as a piano major and was a member of the SDSU Symphony Orchestra playing violin. While at Grossmont High School, I played clarinet and mallets in marching band and was in the symphonic band and orchestra; I sang alto in the award winning choir. Read More

Vocal students are encouraged to pick songs from whatever genre sparks their interest. With violin and viola I use the suzuki method of training and follow the books and lessons, and I use other books to supplement scales/technique. If a student already has musical literature I am very open to using that to build a specific curriculum for that student. Read More

My earliest experience in teaching goes back to the time when I began my own education in musicology. It was a very fruitful time in my life, since I was a student myself and was further enriched by learning the art of how to teach other human beings the beauty of music. As soon as I received more and more students, I felt a demand to refine my technique of music teaching and become an expert in effective communication for the purpose of transferring and sharing whatever is essential to be taught to students. I've been teaching private Suzuki method violin lessons as well as music theory since I was a teenager. More recently I've coached musical theater singers and youth pop and rock bands. I worked with teenagers in group and individual coaching as a TA for the University of the Arts Pre-College Musical Theater Program. I taught group and individual vocal lessons and was a band leader with Beyond Rock summer camp on Long Island, NY. Read More
